Morocco Guided Tour from the Philadelphia
Your Guided Morocco Tour

There’s a certain pull to Morocco, a sense that beyond the familiar tourist spots lies a deeper, richer experience waiting to be found. It’s a place where ancient cities hold secrets in their winding alleyways, the air carries the scent of spices and stories, and the warmth of the people is as captivating as the scenery.

Omar Adventures, founded and guided by the Berber native Omar Imerhan, offers you a chance to experience Morocco via a guided tour from Philadelphia.

Morocco from Philadelphia: An Obvious Choice

While Philadelphia and Morocco may seem like distant cousins on the map, a closer look reveals a surprising kinship.

Think about what makes Philadelphia so special. We’re a city that honors its past, right? We cherish those cobblestone streets, historic buildings, and stories of revolution and resilience. Morocco, too, is a place where history breathes in every corner. As you explore the ancient medinas, you’ll be able to feel the echoes of centuries past. It’s that same deep appreciation for heritage, just with a different, exotic flavor.

Philadelphia is also a city of art. From the murals that brighten our neighborhoods to the world-class collections at the Philadelphia Museum of Art, we celebrate artistic expression. Morocco, in its own way, is a sensory masterpiece. You’ll get a chance to enjoy intricate mosaics that shimmer in the sunlight, vibrant textiles woven with age-old techniques, and rhythmic music that fills the air with a captivating energy. It’s a different kind of art, but it’s just as powerful and moving.

A Moroccan experience is a chance to connect with something deeper that speaks to Philadelphia’s own soul. And with Omar Adventures, that escape is within reach.

Best Time to
Trek/Travel to Morocco

For Philadelphians accustomed to the distinct seasons of the Northeast, Morocco offers a different climatic experience, requiring some planning to maximize comfort and enjoyment.

&

Spring (April-May)

As Philadelphia shakes off the last vestiges of winter, Morocco welcomes visitors with mild temperatures and blooming flora. This is an ideal time to explore the imperial cities, wander through ancient medinas, and enjoy outdoor activities without the intense heat of summer. Trekking in the Atlas Mountains is particularly pleasant during this period.

Autumn (September-October)

Similar to spring, autumn provides agreeable temperatures and clear skies, making it a popular time for travel to Morocco. The heat of summer has subsided, and the air is crisp and refreshing, perfect for sightseeing, desert excursions, and various outdoor pursuits. This is also a prime time for trekking, especially for those interested in Mount Toubkal treks, as the weather is conducive to high-altitude exploration.

Summer (June-August)

While summer in Philadelphia can be hot and humid, Morocco’s summer brings intense heat, particularly in inland and desert regions. However, the coastal areas offer a welcome escape, with opportunities for beach relaxation, water sports, and enjoying the ocean breeze.

Winter (November-March)

Morocco’s winter offers a mild alternative to Philadelphia’s cold, with cooler temperatures that make city exploration more comfortable. The Sahara Desert experiences a unique tranquility during the winter months, with clear skies perfect for stargazing and a more serene desert experience. However, keep in mind that the Atlas Mountains can experience colder temperatures and even snowfall during this period, requiring proper preparation for trekking.

Essential Etiquette for Travelers

While Moroccans are known for their warmth and hospitality, understanding a few key aspects of their etiquette will greatly enhance your interactions and ensure a respectful and rewarding travel experience.

Greetings and Communication:

Handshakes are common between men. For men greeting women, it’s best to wait for the woman to extend her hand first. Some conservative women may prefer not to shake hands. “Salam Alaikum” (Peace be upon you) is a common greeting, and “Wa Alaikum Salam” is the response. “Sbah el kheir” (Good morning) and “Masaa el kheir” (Good evening) are also useful.

Dress Code

In general, it’s best to dress modestly, especially in rural areas and when visiting religious sites. This means covering shoulders and knees. Women should avoid revealing clothing such as tank tops, short skirts, and tight-fitting outfits. Loose-fitting pants or long skirts are good options. When visiting mosques (if non-Muslims are permitted) or shrines, women will often be expected to cover their hair. A scarf is useful for this purpose.

Public Behavior

Older people are highly respected in Moroccan culture. Offer them your seat on public transport and be mindful of your tone and demeanor in their presence.

Public Displays of Affection

Public displays of affection between couples should be discreet.

Ramadan

If you’re traveling during Ramadan, the holy month of fasting, be aware that many people will be fasting from dawn until sunset. Avoid eating, drinking, or smoking in public during these hours out of respect.

Dining Etiquette

Use your right hand for eating (especially when eating with your hands, which is common in some settings). The left hand is considered unclean. Food is often shared in Morocco. If offered food, it’s polite to accept, even if you’re not very hungry.

Photography

Always ask permission before taking photos of people, especially in rural areas. Some people may not want to be photographed for religious or cultural reasons.
