Experience Adventure and Fun while Trekking Through the Atlas Mountains
A few hours away by air from Europe, the high Atlas Mountains promise you the experience and adventure of a lifetime.
Located near Marrakech, a trek in the Atlas Mountains is exactly what you’re looking for. This fantastic five-day trek, in particular, features some of the tallest peaks in North Africa, covering everything from lush valleys to barren rocks as you make your way through villages and passes.
The trek in the Atlas Mountains will be led by a qualified professional guide, muleteers, and a cook as you make your way through the region, staying in different guesthouses and soaking up the adventure and the fun.
While difficult, trekking through the Atlas Mountains does not require mountaineering experience. The views make it all worthwhile.
We’ll kick off a few hours from Marrakech, allowing you to finish your summit and get back within five days, and then have the freedom to explore Marrakech as you want.
Note: We can arrange all airport transfers and hotel/riads accommodation in Marrakech for you. You can always extend your trip from Marrakech to the Sahara for a more fun experience.
Itineraries
Day 1
Marrakech – Imi 1500m – Azzaden Valley 1800m
Day 1 of your trek through the Atlas Mountains begins with a pickup in Marrakech.
Our driver will then take you to Imi Oughlad where you can enjoy the renowned Moroccan mint tea and begin your hike to Tizintacht (1800m) over a pass.
During this trek in the Atlas Mountains, you will make your way through the Berber village of Aitlhcen and juniper trees and make a stop over for lunch before carrying forward to Azzand Valley, which is a treasure of the High Atlas Mountains.
After this 6-hour long hike, you will stay in the last village in the valley, making your home in a local guest house.
Day 2
Azzaden Valley – Tizi Mzik Pass 2300m – Imlil Valley 1900m
The next day of your trekking tour of the Atlas Mountains begins with a hearty, warm breakfast, and then you set off to the beautiful waterfalls nearby. For lunch, you will return to the Mzik Pass, following which you will make your way to Tamatert Village.
It’s a beautiful village that is worth exploring and getting to know the people and culture of Imlil. Here, you will stay once more in another guesthouse after an exhilarating 5 hours of walking and exploring
Day 3
Imlil Valley 1900m – Refuge du Toubkal 3207m
After you enjoy breakfast in the Tamatert Village, you make your way up to the Mizan Valley via the Armed Village and Shamharouch.
After the thrilling day 3 trekking tour of the Atlas Mountains, you’ll find yourself at the Toubkal guest hut, where you will stay for the night.
Nothing prepares you for how breathtaking the entire experience is and how the stars feel almost within reach.
Day 4
Refuge Toubkal 3207m -Toubkal Summit 4167m- Base camp (Toubkal Refuge)
The real challenge begins on day 4 of your trekking tour in the Atlas Mountains as you attempt to summit Jebel Toubkal, the highest peak in North Africa.
You’ll find yourself going up the south cirque and crossing a stream over the refuge.
The top of the mountain is the ultimate place to get views of the magnificent High Atlas Mountains in the north and as far south as the Anti-Atlas and the Sahara.
After soaking up the scenery at the top, Day 4 of your trek in the Atlas Mountains will conclude back at the Toubkal refuge, where you will stay the night.
Day 5
Refuge du Toubkal – Imlil Valley – Marrakech
Once you’re done enjoying a hearty breakfast, you will hike back down to Imlil Village and meet with your driver so you can make your way back to Marrakech. You can then continue exploring the city on your own or continue onwards on your own to explore other parts of Morocco.
It’s a lovely plan that gives you a chance to connect with locals, go on adventures, and explore everything the city has at your own pace.
