Marrakech – Imlil 1740m – Toubkal Refuge 3207m
After a transfer to the small village of Imlil, you begin your trek heading along the Mizane valley. You will first cross the village of Armed and then join the shrine of Sidi Chamharouch. Here, you will have your first break for lunch before you continue following mule trucks going up into the Toubkal Refuge (3207m) for an overnight stay and get ready for the following day.
Approx 6 hours of walking
Day 2
Toubkal Refuge 3207m – Toubkal Peak 4167m – Imlil-Marrakech
Come morning, you will make your attempt at the summit of Jebel Toukbal, the highest peak in Northern Africa. Our route takes us up the south cirque, crossing the stream above the refuge. When you reach the summit, you will see that the vistas across the surrounding landscape are quite breathtaking. From here, there are unrestricted views in every direction, from the Marrakesh Plain to the High Atlas in the north and as far south as the Anti-Atlas and the Sahara. We will retrace our steps when we go down the mountain and head back to the Toubkal Refuge, where you will have lunch and walk down to Imlil Village, where you started, for an overnight stay and get prepared to drive to the Sahara Desert on the next day.
Day 3
Drive from the Atlas Mountains to Zagora
First, we will cross the gorgeous Tizii N’Tichka Pass of the High Atlas Mountains. You will encounter many Berber villages on the way from these peaks before the landscapes change to Kasbahs on the hillsides and beautiful views of the desert that you can stop and take pictures of. After Tichka Pass, you will visit Ait Benhadou Kasbah, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Walk around the Kasbah for an hour and keep driving to Ouarzazate, the door of Sahara, for lunch. After that, you will drive through Draa Valley to Zagora and ride your camels for an hour and 30 minutes from Zagora to your camp for an unforgettable overnight stay under the stars. After dinner, you will enjoy listening to Berber drums and learning more about Moroccan culture.
7 hours of driving
Day 4
Zagora-Marrakesh
After viewing the most beautiful sunrise and having breakfast at the campsite, you will ride the camels back to the auberge. Drive back to Marrakech again via Tichka Pass.
