Your High Atlas Mountain Trek Itinerary
Itineraries
Day 1
Marrakech to Tiziane Village (1700m)
Your adventure begins in the vibrant heart of Marrakech. After a convenient pickup from your accommodation, we'll embark on a scenic drive towards the High Atlas Mountains, passing through the picturesque valleys and the dramatic Moulay Brahim Gorge.
The drive itself is a feast for the eyes, with the landscape gradually shifting from the bustling city to the tranquil countryside. As we ascend into the foothills, the air grows crisper, and the views become increasingly spectacular.
Arriving in ImiOughlad, we'll meet our trusty mule team who will carry our gear, allowing us to trek unburdened. The trail winds through fields of golden corn, where farmers tend their crops using age-old methods. We'll pass through fragrant pine forests, their scent filling the air with a soothing aroma. Alongside the path, refreshing mountain streams gush with crystal-clear water, offering a chance to refill our water bottles and cool off.
We'll pause in the charming village of Imin'Ifri, where you can interact with the friendly locals and perhaps even learn a few words of Berber. Continuing on a southwestern path, we'll enter the Assifn'AitOussaden Valley, a hidden gem of the High Atlas.
As the sun begins to set, we'll reach the tranquil village of Tiziane, our home for the night. Depending on your preference, you can choose to stay in a cozy gite, a traditional Berber guesthouse, or a more luxurious riad offering modern amenities.
Day 2
Tiziane Village to D'knt (1900m)
After a hearty breakfast featuring local delicacies like freshly baked bread and mint tea, we'll bid farewell to Tiziane and ascend out of the Assifn'AitOussaden Valley. The trail takes us through a landscape dominated by lush walnut groves, their gnarled branches adorned with fresh green leaves.
As we climb higher, we'll reach the Tizin'taghrhourte pass, where panoramic views of the surrounding peaks will take your breath away. Our picnic lunch spot is the Assaka Spring, a secluded oasis where you can relax and savor the tranquility of the mountains.
The afternoon's hike leads us through the edges of the forest, where you may spot a Barbary squirrel or a fleeting glimpse of a majestic golden eagle. As dusk approaches, we'll arrive at the village of D'knt, our overnight stop. You'll have the option to stay in a traditional gite or, for a truly immersive experience, camp under a canopy of stars.
Day 3
D'knt to TiziOussem (1850m)
The trek for Day 3 is a journey through diverse landscapes, showcasing the natural beauty of the High Atlas Mountains. The trail winds through three distinct valleys, each with its unique flora and fauna. We'll ascend through walnut groves, passing terraced fields where farmers cultivate maize and barley.
The Tizin'tagdalte pass offers stunning views of the surrounding peaks, and the descent takes us into a fragrant juniper forest, a sensory delight for hikers. We'll pause for lunch at a spring, where the fresh mountain water is incredibly refreshing.
As we continue our journey, we'll follow the course of the Assifn'AitOussaden River, its gentle murmur a constant companion. The day concludes in the village of TiziOussem.
Day 4
TiziOussem to Marrakech
Our final day on the trail offers a glimpse into the heart of Berber culture. We'll pass through the scenic Azzaden Valley, where traditional villages like Azib n Tamsoult and Tamsoult offer a window into the daily lives of the local people.
The Tizin'Mzik pass provides one last opportunity to soak in the panoramic views before we begin our descent to Imlil.
